MS Mix side A added..
12 June 2004
I have added links to a lot of my old tapes which I have converted to mp3. I have reduced them all to 96 Kbs to save web space and removed any hiss from them. if you want one at a higher bitrate email me and I will oblige :)
All my old skool 90-92 mixes have been lost or stolen over time :( but I intend to do some soon when I have moved house next week and got my decks serviced and set up again for the first time since 1997 :o
I'm really looking forwards to doing some old skool mixes as it was my favourite clubbing era and with the help of the internet I have rekindled my love for old skool tunes. Especially with great sites like Old Skool Anthems (www.oldskoolanthemz.com) and Anthems (www.anthems.com) I have reunited with many people like myself who loved that era. Check them sites out !!
Now to my mixes in date order ... I'm going to comment on them from my view in 2004
Devious - Old Skool - MS - Mix - 1991
I used to have a tape years ago which was given to a mate by Mike Stewart. This tape give me the urge to buy some decks and learn to mix. Its a nice mix but Mike doesnt remember doing the tape so maybe it was someone else ? This is a remixed version of it in loverrrly 320kbs.
Devious - This is house - 1993
This is a mix which has a a lot of different type of tunage ranging from piano to tranceyish numbers with a bit of funkyness to it. One of my favourite tapes I have as the mixing on it is almost spot on and contains some of my favourite tunes of that era like Jadee - Plastic dreams.
First side to a tape which contains most of the tunes i loved when in ibiza in 93 & 94 . This side is mostly uplifting progressive tunes like OT Quartet - Hold that sucker down :)
Second side to the ibiza tape , this side is more housey than trancey with more vocal piano numbers and a nice ending with a tune which is older but I heard it in Esparadis in 1994 and finished the tape nicely. :)
Devious - Last Train To Goa- side A
I had this tape sorted when I got into the Goa mix by Paul Oakenfold , that mix I though was groundbreaking , if not the best tunes to dance to in most clubs. I decided to do a similar tape next and that made me change the title of this mix and I changed it around a little and added a few samples here and there e.g the train hooter.
Devious - Last Train To Goa- side B
It follows on the from the A side with the style of tunes with a nice accapella thrown in , ends with a nice chilled out classic - Last Train To Lhasa .
Devious - War & Peace -War side
I did the war and peace tape with the idea of fast trancey techno tunes with ambient tracks in between after listening to that Goa mix. I did this tape with my two decks and cd player which added the ambience tunes as well as the different bird and sea waves ambience which took some time to get the right sound for each record :)
This is the better of the two sides as the mix is flows well and doesnt have tunes playing for ages before the next one.
check it out :)
Devious - War & Peace -Peace side
There is more Goa tunes than the first side so would suit people with a more psychedelic interest than most , I have again uses the ambient birds etc samples in this mix , and is worth listening for the intro to Robert Miles' Children promo I stuck in there.
Me and my friend Neil Smallbridge (Nino) did one side of a tape each to sell in X-Records in Bolton . It is a hardish progressive acid number which is mixed together quite nicey ;) I will upload Neils side soon.
Devious - Take the rough with the smooth
A bit of a mixture this as it starts with funky driving tubes at the start then goes into a bit of nice acid beats then ends with much slower tunes featuring Jedi Knights and Rob d - Clubbed to death. I think the first 5 or so tunes on this mix has some of the best and longest mixes I have done , especially Electroliners - Loose Caboose with De'Lacy's Hideway .Appologies for the inclusion of 'Shrill - Twinker' in the middle of this mix ;) . I shuddered a bit when I heard this tune again after 7 years lol .
I wanted to do a tape containing a genre of music that I was buying a lot of but hadn't done a tape so far . Big heavy acid breakbeat monsters which was a nice change from the trancey sets I was playing. . This is the result.
Heaven & Earth is a tape of mainly Epic house tunes with a few trancey numbers thrown in .Featuring tracks like Kimball Deckard , RITM's mix of Inner city life , Underworld and Quattara. The Heaven side is the better mix of the 2 with the highlight being Pulse's 'lover that your are' accapella over Way out Wests remix of Indoctrinate by Castle Transalott.
I wanted to get the last of my Epic house tunes I was going to buy onto a tape . I was quite into this sound for a while , but then it all got too samey for me and didnt buy much after this. I have only got one side of this tape though.
Devious - Electronic Evolution - Side A
Devious - Electronic Evolution - Side B
A bit of an experiment this tape, I wanted to get some of the great techno that was out there at the time onto tape. The idea was the tape was going to start off slow and deep and was to get increasingly faster and harder to the very end. Theres some great tracks on here and even the real hard tracks near the end are still classic tunes. It does break into the drum and bass bpm's area near the end so I added what is one hard mutha of a drum and bass track, 'Tron' by Panacea. :p
The first side of the last tape I ever did before packing it in after buying myself a PC (oops! :o ) .I had the second side ready but never got to record it. Its quite a low tempo mix with a proper funky start (before the term 'funky house' was over used) it then gets more depper and vocal with tracks like Nuyorican Soul's Runaway. I got into this sound after getting bored off all he trance/epic house trash that was out there and this seemde to be the only original material coming out. When I get my decks back up and running soon I hope to find out that second side tracklisting and add it too this site. I know it contained MAW thro the skies and Roy Davis Jr's Gabrielle.
